Blackjack remains one of the most popular casino games – it’s featured prominently in TV series and movies, and it’s a staple on the floors of real bricks and mortar casinos around the world.
But what about blackjack online casinos in Australia? Is it possible to play this epic card game online here, and if so, how do you do it? This is what we look at in the below guide – we’ll explain how online blackjack works, where it’s available, and also give you one superb recommendation to try – Roovegas Casino.
Online blackjack in Australia works just like it would in any other region – the aim of this classic card game remains the same, and you still have to try and get a hand with a score as close to 21 as possible that beats the dealer’s hand. It is an all-time great table game and hugely popular due to its fast paced rounds, simple gameplay, and relatively high RTP of 99%+.
Unlike free pokies in Australia, blackjack is a more complex game and it has a set of rules and terminology that you should be aware of. The setup of the game is simple – you are playing against the dealer, and you have to try and beat their card hand value, where the best possible score is 21. During each round, there are the following moves/terms:
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| Hit | You request another card to be dealt into your hand. |
| Stand/Stick | You do not take any more cards and you stick with your current hand. |
| Double Down | You double your play amount and draw only one more card. |
| Split | You can split any pair of the same card (such as 2x 8s) into separate hands. |
| Blackjack | A natural blackjack is an Ace plus any Face or 10 card totalling 21. |
| Bust | Your hand totals more than 21 – this is an automatic loss. |
Similar to baccarat online casinos in Australia, to play online blackjack, you cannot use real money online casinos due to their legal restrictions. Instead, there is the potential to use sweepstakes casinos. At these sites, you play games using virtual currencies which are commonly Gold Coins (GC) and Sweeps Coins (SC). You can get these via different promotions such as the signup bonus and daily login bonus.
Online blackjack is an awesome game – it’s easy to play, the rounds are fast-paced, and it offers relatively low volatility gameplay with a high RTP of over 99%. However, it’s not a perfect game, and ideally, if you want to try and be effective, you’ll have to be willing to learn the optimum playing strategy which takes time and effort.
Right now, the only real live casino online in Australia that offers blackjack is Roovegas – as mentioned above, this is due to the limitations on real money gambling, and the relatively short supply of viable sweepstakes casinos. Still, as you will see below, it has a lot to offer, including an excellent array of blackjack games from ICONIC21.
We’ve played at Roo Vegas for some time now and it’s got all the hallmarks of a great sweepstakes casino – like the ones you can find in the US. It has a simple virtual currency setup with the potential for SC cash prize redemptions, and it offers a top range of promotions and bonuses for both new and existing customers. Not only that, but we’ve always loved the modern site design, and the usability that it offers in terms of game navigation and account management.
Speaking of gaming, the legendary developer ICONIC21 provides live blackjack games including its standard limited-seat tables, where you can play with up to 6 other gamers. Alternatively, there is also the classic Gravity Blackjack which is an unlimited seat variant of the table game. Additionally, it has a range of optional side plays such as dealer bust and 21+3, and these can have the randomized Gravity multiplier applied to them.
As you can see from the above guide, your options for online blackjack are limited, and it’s only really Roo Vegas that you can legitimately sign up to. We think this is a brilliant starting point though, as it’s an excellent sweepstakes casino that features some fantastic live blackjack games from ICONIC21, including their legendary Gravity Blackjack game.
Just remember that similar to roulette online casinos in Australia, you will play the game using virtual currencies, not AUD. Still, there is the chance to redeem your Sweeps Coins for cash prizes. With all that considered, if you fancy giving it a try, please feel free to use any of the Roo Vegas banners we have on this page and get signed up today.
No. Currently, Roovegas is the only option for playing online blackjack in Australia, and at this social casino you play the games using virtual currencies – Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins. You then have the chance of winning GC or SC back from your gameplay.
This depends on your approach to the game and your risk factor. A SENSIBLE strategy is to learn the optimum playing strategy and the different moves you should do in different situations such as when to stick, hit, split, and double.
This depends on the version of online blackjack you are playing and if you use any side plays. Typically though, the average RTP is around 99.45% which makes it one of the highest-RTP casino games available.
